What happens when we take prayer seriously?
I learned a lot about prayer on that mission trip, especially from a shy young Korean girl. Just before an evening worship service, she ran up to me, handed me a letter, and then quickly scurried off. Here is a translated excerpt:
"Dear American Pastor:
I am in the 7th grade, a member of the youth group. When I was in the 3rd grade, I was partially paralyzed by a rare disease. My legs were affected, and I could not move around very well. I was not good at sports. I visited various hospitals and doctors hoping to be cured. I tried many things, but nothing helped. I even went to the temple to ask the moon to heal me, with no result. I became very discouraged.
Later, I began attending a Christian church. My pastor found out about my illness and spread the word to his congregation. They all prayed and did many other kind things for me. Finally, the Lord answered my prayer. Now I can run and play sports like other students. I know that He is a living God."
